"Mekedatu" dam project as it is mentioned in government gazette of Karnataka Government. Meke datu means a "goat can jump over" to cross that stretch of Cauvery river. Here Cauvery river passes through the rocks of the hillock. We can visit that place to see the name reasoning. Once if Karnataka Government build a Dam over there, everything will submerged in the dam storage. Really Karnataka Government doing good job not leaving any and every vulnerable location for dam building. They store water to best level possible to serve their people. In the recent years they Karnataka have shared the water with other states as mentioned - recommended by the Cauvery water Tribunal not a quantity below ordered. During monsoon season the flow of water in Cauvery in Tamilnadu breach danger levels. Most of such excess water used to be promptly drained in sea. Tamilnadu has made no efforts to store water in check dams. In the entire stretch of about 600 kms of Cauvery journey in the state hardly five to six check dams in existence. Here the rural people in Cauvery region have been brainwashed to believe any depth and cavities creation in the Cauvery riverbeds will adverse the ground water level and lead to drinking water shortage. It is ridiculous to believe a government cannot provide continuous drinking water supply to a village with population of about 5000 or 6000. One can go and see adjacent Karnataka state providing uninterrupted drinking water supply to interior villages in Ramanagara, Mandya, Mysore districts. It is a political will of all parties coming to power to provide water. Here in Tamilnadu the sand mafias in their in fight use rural population to believe unsubstantiated theories to bring harm to the people. If in a particular stretch of the river sand is dug out to an appropriate depth and a check dam for a quiet good height is built, so many tmc of water could be stored and only a smaller portion of that reserve will be required to serve the rural population around. In the plains of Cauvery river passing stretch atleast 50 check dams are required for every 10kms. Will the new State government in Tamilnadu bring a peoples movement to make best use of Cauvery water?
